Getmonero.org to switch to Astro with fresh design by rehrar
The Monero community has apparently finally reached consensus1 in today’s Monero Website Workgroup meeting2 to migrate the official Getmonero.org website from Jekyll to Astro3 and task rehrar4 with creating the new design:
In short, unless there are EXTREMELY compelling reasons given now or after the fact (and they should be very very very compelling, not just “I wasn’t there”, we are now, definitively, moving forward with a plan of Astro, and a design that I will make (that can be tweaked by the community later, of course) (rehrar)
The new website will not ship any JavaScript5 despite concerns6 about using a JS framework.
Visit SyntheticBird45’s monero-site-astro7 repository and the associated onion8 for a rough prototype of the current website’s Astro port. The initial version of rehrar’s design is available on Figma9.
It is worth noting that Getmonero.org was completely redesigned and restructured by rehrar in 201710 and the community has been considering potential website redesigns and Jekyll alternatives for a while now11.
This is an ongoing story and the report will be updated when new information is available.
